Juvéderm and Restylane are hyaluronic acid fillers which can be used to plump, lift, and smooth aging areas of the face. These products are often used first to prevent the progressive signs of aging. Both Juvéderm and Restylane products offer a solution to tired appearances, creases around the mouth, downturning corners of the mouth, jowling, volume loss in cheeks, lips or jawline and can improve facial balancing. These hyaluronic acid fillers are the staple treatment to address a multitude of aesthetic opportunities.
There are multiple types of Dermal Fillers. These types include:
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring acid in your skin. It gives your skin volume and keeps it hydrated. With age, your body stops making hyaluronic acid. Results from HA injections usually last six months to a year. Restylane and Juvederm are commonly used types of HA filler.
Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) is a type of filler that consists of a substance you have in your bones. Results from these fillers typically last around a year. Healthcare providers usually use CaHA fillers for deeper wrinkles. Examples of CaHA fillers include Radiesse®.
Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) is a substance that helps your body create its own collagen. Healthcare providers usually use poly-L-lactic acid to smooth deep wrinkles on your face. The results can last two years or more. Types of PLLA fillers include Sculptra®.
These fillers are traditionally used to provide the patient with a more youthful and refreshed appearance, leaving the skin smooth and soft. At Meraki, we carry multiple dermal fillers and filler choice is often determined with our advanced injectors. Dermal fillers are both safe and effective for treating sagging, jowling, facial lines, creasing, and lip augmentation. They are used to primarily restore overall volume loss in treatment areas of the face. Juvederm’s collection of fillers include a wide product range consisting of Voluma, Vollure, Volbella, Ultra, and Ultra Plus. Restylane’s collection of fillers include Lyft, Defyne, Refyne, Kysse, Restylane, and Silk.
When possible, patients should avoid blood thinning medications such as NSAIDS in the week prior to treatment in efforts to prevent bruising and bleeding at the injection site. It is also recommended to avoid alcohol and fish oil consumption prior to your treatment as this could also increase your potential to bruise. We also recommend patients to take Arnica (orally or topically) when appropriate, before their appointment to aid in reducing the chance for swelling or bruising. Arnica can be purchased at your local drug store or in our office at Meraki.
Patients may experience mild swelling and/or redness at the injection sites. This will typically resolve for patients within a day or so, and most patients are able to continue with their daily activities after their treatment. Meraki Aesthetics and Company recommends avoiding strenuous exercises, working out, massage tables, and alcohol consumption for 24 hours after treatments to minimize the risk of complications.
Dermal filler products are long lasting, with expected durations being between 6 and 24 months, depending on the specific filler. There is little to no discomfort during treatments and dermal fillers have an incredible safety profile. Fillers like Juvederm and Restylane offer patients the ability to restore a more refreshed and youthful appearance without having plastic surgery. The patient can expect minimal to no side effects, a quick procedure, minimal risk of adverse reactions, and little to no recovery or downtime.
The injections usually take less than an hour, and you can get them right in our office at Meraki. Because it’s a nonsurgical treatment, recovery time is minimal.
Dermal fillers are also typically less expensive than elective surgical procedures.
During your Dermal Filler treatment, Meraki Aesthetics and Company strives to provide an easy appointment that is comfortable for all of our patients. We will start by applying a numbing cream to the treatment area to reduce the amount of discomfort noted with injections. Filler will be injected into the deeper layers of the skin to provide support to the tissues and an increase in volume and smoothing to the treatment area. Our licensed providers will inject the filler and gently massage the treatment area. After we have achieved our desired look, we will apply ice packs to the treated area to minimize swelling and redness.
Patients can expect to see the results of JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® fillers immediately after injections, with minimal swelling. CaHA fillers like Radiesse® May also be seen immediately post injection and continue to improve over time. PLLA fillers like Sculptra may take a few weeks to months to develop results.
Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse or Sculptra is great for anyone who may be noticing signs of aging and volume loss. It can correct minimal to significant signs of aging and is FDA approved for patients who desire a more youthful, refreshed appearance but does not require invasive surgeries to achieve a desired aesthetic. The ideal candidate for these dermal fillers is anyone who is noticing the signs of aging, including a loss of moisture and elasticity in their skin. These patients will be seeking a more youthful appearance, desiring to treat target areas of the face that show tissue decension, hollows, or volume loss.
Filler appointments take approximately 60 minutes to complete, from the patient walking in the door to the patient leaving satisfied. This is a common treatment to schedule during the patient’s lunch hour, just like any other doctor’s appointment.
Any patients who have received any vaccines in the previous 28 days are not current candidates for fillers. Patients may have filler four weeks after vaccinations, and should wait an additional four weeks after filler injections to get any subsequent vaccinations. Patients are encouraged to not have dental work for two weeks, before or after their appointments. For patients with a history of coldsores, caution should be taken when injecting around the mouth.
