FAQ'S

Neuromodulator’s are an FDA-approved, prescribed treatment which can be used to treat a multitude of cosmetic concerns, giving both consistent and predictable results to patients. This product is indicated for temporarily softening frown lines around the brows, the forehead, and even around the eyes, commonly referred to as crow’s feet. Neuromodulator’s ease muscle contraction, leading to a relaxed and refreshed overall aesthetic. Minimal downtime can be anticipated with an entire treatment session lasting less than 30 minutes.

In clinical trials indicating Botox lasting approximately three months, patients received a standard dosage of Botox: 20 units in their forehead, 20 units in between their eyebrows, and 24 units between the crows feet (12 units per side). While this is the standard and expected dosage that the clinical trials utilized for these three areas, units can be customized in a personalized treatment plan with your licensed provider based on your personal anatomy, needs, and goals. Units/dosing will be under the discretion of your provider. Dysport and Xeomin units/dosage may vary from Botox.

Patients can expect to notice full results from a neuromodulator treatment 14 days after the initial administration took place. However, patients typically notice a marked improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, and dynamic movement by day 7 following the initial administration

Botox, Dypsort, and Xeomin are neuro-modulators, or products which soften the action of muscles. Botox and Dysport are similar products which are produced by different manufacturers. Xeomin manufactured by Merz is different from Botox and Dysport, it is known as an “ultra purified” meaning it does not contain a protein around the molcule. While Allergan makes Botox, Galderma makes Dysport.

Common areas for treatment include the forehead, the “11’s” between the eyebrows, and crows feet around the eyes. Other areas of opportunity include utilizing neuromodulators to slim a thick jawline and relieve teeth grinding, in the underarms or hands to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and even in the neck muscles to relax noticeable platysmal banding. They can further be used for eyebrow lifting, gummy smiles, perioral lines and wrinkles, bunny lines around the nose, and even for a subtle “lip flip,” turning the patient’s own natural pink of the lip further outward, thereby giving the lips a fuller effect. Downturns of the mouth and even dimpling of the chin can also be corrected with neuromodulators.

A neuromodulator treatment is clinically indicated to last approximately three months. This indication is supported by Allergan, the manufacturer of Botox, who has performed numerous clinical studies to judge longevity of Botox. Galderma, the manufacturer who carries Dysport, indicates approximately three months as well. Merz, the manufacturer who carries Xeomin indicates three to four months as well.

A neuromodulator treatment administered by a licensed professional will typically last approximately three months. To maintain these results, the patient will need to continue subsequent retreatments approximately every three months.

Most often, patients report feeling no sensation during or after a neuromodulator treatment. However, some patients may feel a minor pin prick and mild pressure at the injection site during the injection. Patients typically report minor discomfort with injections to pain-free injections.

While rare, there are some instances where Botox /Dysport/Xeomin are not recommended. It is not appropriate for those who have an active infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any botulinum toxin preparation or to any of the components within the formulation itself. In areas where inflammation is present, caution should be used with neuromodulators, as well in areas where there may be excessive weakness or atrophy of the muscles. In patients who suffer from neuromuscular diseases, they may not be recommended.

Patients receiving neuromodulators from Meraki Aesthetics and Company should expect natural results that lend to a more relaxed and refreshed appearance. Conservative measures are used to ensure appropriate correction of the desired areas while allowing for a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and an overall relaxation of the treated muscles.

There is no down time after neuromodulator treatments, but patients should avoid working out, massage tables, tight fitting hats, and alcohol on the same day of their treatment.

Neuromodulator treatments typically take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete. Typically, the longest part of the treatment appointment is filling out medical history and developing a treatment plan with your provider. The actual injections take approximately 3-5 minutes to administer.
